Risks of a Male Yeast Infection

Most people think that a yeast infection, especially on a male, is more of a hindrance and an embarrassment than anything potentially dangerous. However if left unchecked, a yeast infection can lead to serious and dangerous health complications.

If left alone, the yeast on can spread throughout the male body and reek havoc. It is vital that if you think you have a yeast infection you don't walk to the doctor, you run. The yeast can spread very fast and lead to much more serious and potentially life threatening issues.

A guy could have a yeast infection if he notices a burning or itching sensation in the genital area. Often times too, the skin in the region will become inflamed, red and swollen. These are they typical signs of a yeast infection. One of the problems is however the infection looks and feels similar to jock itch, which is another type of fungal infection. So if you think you may have either type, be sure to pay a visit to your doctor. You will be glad you did.

Another issue with yeast infection on men is that the symptoms will sometimes clear themselves up. So often times men think they just had jock itch and it went away. However the yeast is still there and it is still growing and multiplying. So while the man thinks he is healthy and clear, he is potentially leaving himself open for further health complications and may even be passing the infection on to he sexual partners. So never assume that your infection cleared up just because the symptoms went away. Do the right thing, swallow your pride, and go to your doctor.

Another potential risk of a male yeast infection is damage to the prostate gland. What can happen is the yeast, when left untreated, multiplies and grows at an alarming rate and can actually start to penetrate the inside of the man through his urethra. The fungus continues to travel the urethra until it reaches the prostate gland where it continues to grow and do damage, but this time from within the body. At this state the prostate is susceptible to the yeast and the body cannot fight it off. This can often times lead to further health problems and mis-diagnosis at the doctor's office. That is why yeast infection on men is no joke. It is nothing to be ashamed of or try to hide. It is something that needs to be handled as soon as possible to avoid any long term and damning health effects.

This is not so much a risk of a male yeast infection, but it is a group of people who are potentially at greater risk. Those are men with uncircumcised penises. It is still undetermined whether or not circumcision is indeed hygienically better for a male, but a lot of people think that it is pretty common knowledge. Whether or not it is true is up for debate. However, there seems to be evidence which suggests that men with uncircumcised penises are at greater risk of developing yeast infections. Again it is not a stone cold truth that this is the case, but evidence does lean in that direction. So it is very important for uncircumcised men to make sure they take the extra precaution and practice better than standard hygiene in the genital area.

The risks associated with yeast infections can be very scary for men. So it should not be scary to discuss a possible infection with your doctor. There is a stigma surrounding yeast infections. Most people think that only women get them, thus if a man gets one there must be something wrong with him. Well there isn't. If a man is silent about his infection, then there is something wrong with him.
